Our Area Managers built insect hotels for selected buildings

In September, our Area Managers joined Catella’s Property Management Day, where everyone rolled up their sleeves to build insect hotels. In the meantime, the insect hotels have been installed at selected buildings in Maastricht, Zeist, Arnhem, Capelle aan den IJssel, and Nieuwegein.

The workshop was hosted by Flora Nova, who guided the teams through the building process. The insect hotels are now placed at Catella buildings with shared gardens, giving each location a small but meaningful boost in local biodiversity. They got their place in the shared gardens of Residentie Gerlachus in Maastricht, Lorentz in Zeist, Crown in Arnhem, Rive Republic in Capelle aan den IJssel, Hof van Vronestein, Wattbaan, and CORE in Nieuwegein.

Why insect hotels matter
Insect hotels create safe spaces for insects that play a key role in keeping outdoor areas healthy. Many insects help pollinate plants and keep ecosystems in balance. Urban environments often lack natural hiding spots, so adding insect hotels fills that gap. More insects means more pollination, more plant growth, and more life in communal gardens! Insect hotels also help strengthen biodiversity. A broader mix of species makes outdoor areas more resilient to changes in weather, disease, or pests. Even a small structure can help stabilize the local ecosystem.

With these new insect hotels in place, our shared gardens become a little healthier and a lot more balanced. It's a small upgrade with clear benefits for residents, the environment, and the green spaces around our buildings. A simple step that keeps nature close, even in busy urban areas.
